Measuring and Installation
Step One: Measure Your Area
Each pallet of sod covers 450 square feet. Obtain your square footage by measuring length times width. Divide your square footage by 450 to arrive at how many pallets you will need. You can also click the link below to outline your lawn for correct measurements.
Step Three: Laying Sod
Install your sod within 6-12 hours of receiving. Lay the first strip of sod along a straight line. Butt joints tightly- do not overlap edges. When laying the second strip, stagger the joints, much like laying bricks. Use a sharp knife to cut sod to fit curves, edges, sprinkler heads, etc.
Step Two: Ground Preparation
Kill and remove any existing grass or weeds. Remove debris, large rocks, construction material etc. For best results, apply 1 1/2" to 2" compost across area to be sodded. Establish a rough grade of 1" to 1 1/2 " below sidewalks, sprinkler heads etc. Water the soil. The soil should be moist but firm. Rake for final grade.
Step Four: Water the Grass
Start watering immediately after installation. Soak the grass thoroughly until water is standing in puddles. After this initial irrigation, water the grass once a day for the next 2 weeks. Once grass is established and rooted, give your lawn one deep irrigation per week. This may need to be in increased during extreme heat and drought times or decreased in rainy periods.
